thought of you a god (3:25)
Inspired by a Trinity Slough poem
There was a time
I thought of you as a god
When I believed
I was the only thing
You wanted to touch,
And I believed
You were the only one
Who could love me.
But now I see:
That when you're on your knees,
Beggin' and pleadin'
Asking me to come back,
You're not holy,
You're just human --
Not the god I believed in.
So now I'm here,
Trembling and quiet.
You put out my dreams,
The ones you ignited.
And I believed
The flames wouldn't hurt me.
But now I see:
That when you're on your knees,
Beggin' and pleadin'
Asking me to come back,
You're not holy,
You're just human --
Not the god I believed in.
